Tanning salons haven’t completely eliminated the day at the beach, but they have been gaining ground since their launch in the eighties. People are too busy to spends hours and days lying out in the sun so they choose to visit a salon in the hopes of getting the tan they want faster. It is also convenient for those who don’t live in a place where the beach is easily accessible or have a backyard to enjoy, like big cities.
There are basically two ways today that you can get a tan through a salon. One way is with the special lights that they use that reproduce the UV rays needed for a tan. The other way is through cosmetic equipment. Both are affordable and can be effective. But the biggest plus is that they are fast.
When a salon offers tanning through cosmetics, basically what they are offering is tans like the spray-on variety. Products like this can be bought and used at home, but the salon method generally is faster and produces a more even and natural looking tan. Not to mention, this is the fastest method of all, walk in pale and come out a dazzling bronzed beauty.
The cosmetic tans are gaining in popularity because they don’t have the same harmful effects that the sun’s rays give you. They also lower the risk of any harmful damage to the body, such as skin cancer. This method also eliminates any contact with UV lamps or tanning beds.
You generally stand in a room and the spray is applied while you either stand still or turn. The other option with a cosmetic tan is to have the sunless lotion manually applied to your body by a beauty expert, some will even air spray it on you. They have experience to know the right amount for the shade you want and to ensure it is even, not streaky. These don’t last as long as other tans, but are perfect for a quick tan.
The most popular method is the tanning bed. This is a special clamshell-style bed with special lights that simulate the effect of the sun’s rays on the skin. With this method you lay inside the bed, as it will close, and the UV rays will come from above and below, so you tan from all sides at once. This method will not burn the skin, unless you overdo it which is dangerous all around. The skin doesn’t burn because the UVB rays which cause burning on the skin are not present.
Another method that is gaining in popularity is the vertical booth. It works in the same way as the bed with the heat lamps, but instead of lying you stand vertically. In that position, you are then surrounded by tanning bulbs that are mounted behind Plexiglas. This method also gives you the all over even tan.
Opting to use tanning salons instead of being subjected to the sun for hours a day is something many people are now doing. If an event suddenly comes up, going to the salon for a quick spray on tan can have you looking great in no time. A trip to the beach is planned and you are pale, jump start your tan in the salon so you don’t look like a ghost on the beach. For whatever reason you choose to use a salon, check out all the options and methods to decide which is best for you.
